William Tyndale

Oct 27, 2019    Mike Burchfield

Today the English Bible is so readily available that many Christians own multiple copies in various formats. This has not always been the case however. In 16th century England it was against the law both to own an English copy of the Bible and to translate scripture into English; and the penalty for doing so was death. But despite those oppressive laws, William Tyndale (1494 - 1536), was convinced that scripture should be available to all English speakers. He therefore made it his life goal to give the English speaking world an English Bible, translated from Hebrew and Greek; and in the process of doing so, standardized the English language and birthed the English Reformation. This biographical sketch, given on Reformation Sunday, October 27, 2019, tells the exciting and sobering story of his life and martyrdom for the cause of Jesus Christ.
