Churches, Christians and Civic Engagement

Oct 25, 2020    Mike Burchfield

As the 2020 presidential elections approach, many Christians have questions about civic engagement and churches take different approaches to how they ought to engage in the political process of our nation. This sermon addresses this topic by asking and answering two questions. The first question: “What is God doing in our world?”, gives thought to what churches and Christ’s followers are called to keep before them as a primary focus. The second question: “How should churches and christians engage in the civic arena, in light of what God is doing in the world?” gives practical insight into how Christ’s followers are called to live in our time. From various texts of scripture the message shows that God is brining about an everlasting kingdom. For this reason churches and Christians are to wage a good warfare through worship, prayer, evangelism, and by participation in our political process by voting, writing and appealing to magistrates and perhaps by serving in public office, if gifted to serve in that arena for Christ.
