As we saw in our sermon last week, Paul is in protective custody in the house of his enemies - and his enemies want to kill him, they have already tried to do so, and they are going to try once again. As we consider how the ‘once again’ unfolds in this sermon we have a picture of the Lord’s overriding care - His providential protection - of His apostle. We see this in the stories four movements. First we have a promise, then a plot, then a providence and finally, a protection. This illustrates for us how the Lord works providentially to protect, guide and bring about HIs plan in the life of His apostle. From Paul’s story, we see illustrated the great truth that God guides us, cares for us, and orchestrates the circumstances of our lives in such a way so as to accomplish His will in us while molding us into the people He wants us to be. This includes guidance, protections, purification, spiritual growth, and growth in knowing Him.
