Local Mission

Being on mission with Jesus means making disciples in our neighborhood and around the world.

God was not content to sit back and wait for us to come to him. Instead the bible testifies to a God who goes out of his way to redeem people. At the heart of God’s mission is to reconcile humanity to himself. This happens as people experience the grace and forgiveness offered in the gospel through Jesus. Because of this, we are to represent Jesus in both word and action wherever we are in this world. This means that mission is both local and global; both inside and outside the walls of the church.

In practice we serve locally inside the church through various ministries and outside the church walls in our community as representatives of Jesus. Likewise, we are to go to the ends of the earth with the gospel or support those who do. Because of this, West Hills sends out and supports missionaries in our local community and worldwide.
(Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8, 2 Corinthians 5:11-12, Colossians 3:19-20)

Local Mission

Jesus gave His church a mandate to proclaim the good news about Him to all people, because the gospel is God’s message of reconciliation. Jesus’ followers interact with people everyday who are in desperate need of being reconciled to both God and others. Want to be an instrument of reconciliation in your neighborhood, school, or work? Below are some practical ways that you can do this:

  • Join a Community Group
See our Community Groups page to find out more and how to get involved with a group today.

  • Senior Citizen Outreach
West Hills wants to see senior citizens in our community know Jesus and have a meaningful connection to our church family. Many senior citizens would love to be part of a local church but need a little help such as a ride on Sunday mornings and spiritual encouragement during the week. Want to help? • Disability Outreach
West Hills is committed to serving people with disabilities and their families that they might know Jesus and grow in Him. We do this in the following ways:

    * Sunday Buddies: having people available on Sunday mornings to help a person with a disability to connect with our various ministries. This often takes the form of helping a specific child in a Sunday school classroom so he or she can connect with the ministry and freeing parents or caregivers to worship in the main service.

    * Respite Events: West Hills periodically provides a Saturday event for children with disabilities and their siblings. This allows parents and caregivers in our community the opportunity to take a break knowing that their children are being cared for in a safe and understanding environment.

    * Family Camp: West Hills supports the ministry of Joni and Friends in providing a week long family camp for families and individuals living with disability. Camps are held in June and July and West Hills provides a significant number of the volunteers who are critical to this ministry.
