For the body does not consist of one member but of many.
–1 Corinthians 12:14
Being in community means gathering together in smaller groups during the week to love and serve others.
Every Christian has a personal relationship with God, but also belongs to a larger group. Christian faith is not meant to be lived in isolation. For that reason, the local church is not a building or a worship service. Instead the bible describes the church as a people committed to one another, praying for one another and showing love for one another. Jesus taught his disciples that the world would know that they followed him if they had this kind of love for one another. Loving community is counter cultural. In authentic community we’re able to disciple one another, encourage one another, serve together and show the world physical proof of God’s transforming power through our love.
In practice West Hills values Community Groups as a place for this to happen. Community Groups meet at various times throughout the week. This kind of authentic Christian community can also be experienced in other venues within the church through bible studies and serving in ministry.
